My family has a strong opinion on a agricultural system approach
-firstly OMAFRA is using a soil classification system (CLI)as part of how it determines a agricultural property. This information is not ground truthed and not accurate as we personally experienced. I am only discussing our property as an agricultural designation has great implications when removed from Rural.
- the region and municipality where our property is located which is outside the greenbelt in 2018 took rural properties and intentionally put them in the agricultural system. They removed rural designation from the map and what has and always was a rural property they converted to agriculture in many cases. This was done without notification and with no thought to what it would have on a families life savings.
- before the ontario govt comes up with an agricultural system you should correct the wrong that has been inflicted on rural properties that were incorrectly put into a agricultural designation in 2018.
-the region and municipality by giving a agriculture designation figured out a way to prevent development such as houses or anything else in the rural area so they created this plan to deter building. If a person wants to build they now require studies and obstacles created to construction and my neighbours permit applications are taking 3-4 years to get a permit. How is this red tape reduction?
- to the public they say we are doing everything to support housing and putting shovels in the ground. However that is supportive to the urban area only. And even though we are close to urban the municipality have planning staff intentionally supporting NO TOUCH in the rural area and by giving the property an intentional incorrect designation such as AGRICULTURE preserves the rural area. However, the NEC rural designation already prevents a housing development
From taking place on a rural NEC property. Why create such chaos for a family to begin with when protection of the land is already there?
- therefore, before approving this municipalities OP which has not been approved as of yet and compare it to the OP before and look at the increase in agricultural properties that have been added in 2018 and draw your own conclusion.
- my family had to incur a great expense and do a CLI soil testing and LEAR study in order to prove it is a rural and not an agricultural property.
- is it fair that the only way out is to go to OLT? This is not right for a family. So, if you are going to create an ag system approach do it ONLY in the greenbelt and do not allow municipalities to use this AGRICULTURE SYSTEM approach outside of greenbelt as a way of causing delays, constraints, and red tape to hard working families. That is exactly what you are saying you would not do. And if you want to preserve farmland in the greenbelt then do so but outside the greenbelt do not allow municipalities to greenbelt land outside of the greenbelt as that is what is being done and it is illegal to do so.
