If it has been previously determined that the safest distance a landfill should be from a community is 3.5 km, old laws should not be able to change this. The old Dresden landfill, which was a very limited capacity and used before environmental laws were put in place, being only 1 km from town should be automatically deemed inappropriate. Therefore, if York 1 and the government insist on pushing ahead with this project an environmental assessment MUST be completed to determine if it is safe for people and the environment.
