Détails de la décision

The Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks (ministry) has closed the file and will not be issuing a Renewable Energy Approval for the Oneida Road solar project proposed to be located at Part of Lots 18-21, NWNBTR & 5, in Southwold Township, County of Elgin.

During the ongoing review of the application for the Oneida Road solar project, the ministry amended the Renewable Energy Approvals Regulation (Ontario Regulation 359/09) to impose new requirements on renewable energy applicants, requiring them to demonstrate that the project fulfils an electricity demand and that the project is not prohibited by municipal zoning requirements.

These changes meant that current and future applicants would need to provide documentation demonstrating that the proposed project fulfills an authorized need for the electricity produced and that the proposed use of land at the project location is not prohibited by a zoning by-law or zoning order under the Planning Act. These changes to the regulation were made applicable to any existing applications that had been submitted but not decided prior to the amendments coming into force.

On September 13, 2022, this proposal notice was updated to advise the public that this file was still under review since the ministry was awaiting the additional information from the applicant in relation to regulatory requirements changes.

The ministry did not receive the required additional information and we have closed this file.
