CRH Canada Group Inc. operating as Ash Grove - Environmental Compliance Approval (air)

This proposal is for an Environmental Compliance Approval with Limited Operational Flexibility (air & noise) which replaces all the current Environmental Compliance Approvals for Air at this facility and includes the addition of new or historically unapproved sources for all emissions from CRH Canada Group Inc.. operating as Ash Grove, a cement production facility located in the City of Mississauga, Ontario.

The application is to consolidate all sources at the Ash Grove Cement Facility which includes:

• crushing
• screening
• conveying of raw materials
• baghouses
• fuel preparation
• clinker/cement manufacturing
• material handling
• dust collectors
• diesel engines
• support operations

Emissions to the air from this facility include:

• suspended particulate matter
• calcium oxide
• sodium hydroxide
• slag
• carbon monoxide
• nitrogen oxide
• sulphur dioxide

The Environmental Compliance Approval with Limited Operational Flexibility (air & noise), when issued permits modifications to the facility subject to limits on operational flexibility that include a production limit for the facility to be specified on the Environmental Compliance Approval with Limited Operational Flexibility (air & noise). The Limited Operational Flexibility conditions have an expiry date. The company will be required to make an application for amendment at that time to renew these conditions.

CRH Canada Group Inc. has also submitted a request for sulphur dioxide and nitrogen oxides site-specific standards for the Ash Grove facility that includes an action plan to install new or modify current sorbent injection and selective non-catalytic reduction system(s) to reduce emission of sulphur dioxide and nitrogen oxides.& The request is currently under review by the Ministry and a separate environmental registry posting for the proposed site-specific air standards approval will be posted for public comment.
