On July 27, 2026, the Township of Wilmot adopted a new Official Plan by By-law 2026-53. The ministry is seeking feedback on the council adopted new Township of Wilmot Official Plan and will review all comments before recommendations are provided to the Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing for a decision in accordance with the Planning Act.

The new Township of Wilmot Official Plan proposes to replace the current in-effect 2004 Township of Wilmot Official Plan and the Regional Municipality of Waterloo Official Plan, as it relates to the Township of Wilmot.
The purpose of the new Official Plan is to establish a vision, principals, goals, objectives, and policies that will guide growth and development in the Township of Wilmot to the 2051 planning horizon. The new Official Plan will update the land use planning framework in the Township of Wilmot, which includes updating land use policies and schedules. The new Official Plan will also ensure consistency with the Provincial Planning Statement, 2024 (PPS, 2024).
If approved, the new Township of Wilmot Official Plan would apply to all lands within the Township of Wilmot.
