Détails de la décision
The exploration permit was issued, Terms and Conditions were not added. There were concerns were raised relating to potential cumulative impacts during the Ministry’s Exploration Permit Review process. The exploration permit is valid for 3 years from the date of issue.
Effets de la consultation
The project activities include two drill pads set up on previously disturbed drill sites, with access proposed to occur during the winter via previously constructed trails on the eastern side of Wolf lake.
The proponent’s early exploration activities will assess mineral resource potential with no guarantee of further development. The proponent must also adhere to the Provincial Standards for Early Exploration and ensure all other legislation and considerations apart from ENDM regulations are followed.
At this time, there is no proposal or activity to evaluate other than the early exploration permit level activities related to the Sudbury 2.0 project. As such, it is not possible to discuss potential outcomes or concerns relating to an advanced project or mine.
The Ministry of Energy, Northern Development and Mines not believe that these are circumstances in which there is risk of potential long-term impacts to the environment, including lake quality, biodiversity and cumulative impacts to the forest and Wahnapitae watershed.
It should be noted that a considerable number of steps and a lengthy list of authorizations must first be sought prior to developing an advanced exploration project or mine. These include, but are not limited to:
Determining project scope for potential environmental assessment purposes
Collecting environmental baseline studies
Public information meetings
Engaging in continued Indigenous consultation
Submitting a mine rehabilitation plan (closure plan) that complies with O. Reg. 240/00 under the Act.
Providing the Ministry of Energy, Northern Development and Mines with adequate financial assurance to ensure the rehabilitation will take place should the proponent not successfully rehabilitate the site
Input and feedback from the community, stakeholders will continue to be solicited throughout the process. The Ministry of Energy, Northern Development and Mines continues to monitor the early exploration activities conducted by the proponent. Thank you for bringing your comments, observations, and concerns to our attention
