Détails de la décision

An amendment to Environmental Compliance Approval No. 7220-B75PLW is granted to Kirkland Lake Gold Inc. for the addition of Phase 4 sewage treatment system to serve Sagimeo Lodge, and to use treated Biosolids for reclamation at the Detour Lake Mine.

The approved new sewage treatment system has a design average daily flow capacity of 200 cubic metres per day and consists of:

  • two primary treatment tanks
  • two Sequencing Batch Reactor (SBR) tanks
  • two media filtration units
  • two UV disinfection units

Effluent will be discharged via a pipeline, along with other effluent from existing three sewage treatment systems having an existing treatment capacity of 315 cubic metres per day, into a nearby low-lying wetland coniferous forest (WCF) area, and eventually reaching Easter Creek through a wetland and low forest terrain.

The approved Dewatered Sewage Sludge Biosolids (DWB) reclaiming system includes one DWB storage site (utilizing existing overburden stockpile - OVB1) and land application to previous mine stockpile 1 (MRS1) area, as part of reclamation at the Detour Lake Mine.

One site-wide ECA is issued for the above Sagimeo lodge, as well as little Hopper Lodge that is under ERO Notice No. 019-4133.

Appeal process for decisions published before June 1, 2021

If you’re an Ontario resident, you can start the process to appeal this instrument decision.

First, you’ll need to seek leave (i.e. get permission) from the relevant appellate body to appeal the decision.

If the appellate body grants leave, the appeal itself will follow.

Seek leave to appeal

To seek leave to appeal, you need to do these three things:

  1. prepare your application
  2. provide notice to the minister
  3. mail your application to three parties

1. Prepare your application
