This proposal is to amend Environmental Compliance Approval (waste disposal site) No. A612011 for a non-hazardous waste disposal site for the management of 100% non-hazardous biomass residuals, including woody biomass and wastewater treatment plant solids generated by the manufacturing and environmental control practices at the on-site pulp and paper and wood products facilities.

The facility is a 350-hectare property located in the Town of Kapuskasing, District of Cochrane. The facility operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The amendment includes the following modifications:

  • increase the maximum storage capacity of biomass residuals from 16,440 metric tons to 25,050 metric tons
  • allow for flexibility with on-site storage locations and quantities for biomass residuals
  • reflect the potential use of wood ash for agricultural land application
