I like the proposed changes to the moose tag application process. But I think something more should be done to give northern residents, who rely on moose to supply their families, a better chance at a tag.
I believe giving northern residents a preference over all other hunters for cow tags would be a good way to do this. This would allow northern residents to get the meat they need while allowing other hunters the chance at the much more sought after bull tags.
An please do not use the old surplus moose tag system if the proposed changes are accepted. That system was no good and you could never get through to claim a surplus tag. Allow an online claims process with a queue to be used, or even a phone system with a queue.
