This looks like a very positive change although final details are lacking. I fully agree with the points forfeiture at 2nd chance/ 1st draw and feel that a short application period prior to season opening is very reasonable. I look forward to more news updates as this process unfolds.
Any changes that have the potential to reduce the overall points requirement is desirable. I am a senior hunter who has experienced excellent success in the past draws. However the current high points thresholds for both bow and gun Bull tags likely mean a person of my years may never get a Bull tag again.
I know of other jurisdictions where mandatory electronic reporting has enabled wildlife resource managers to issue a greater number of tags and then immediately close seasons in a WMU once the harvest threshold is met. Such immediate closure notices use social media and electronic communication and place the onus on the hunter to ensure short notice closures are respected. I believe such a system has merits to increase hunting opportunities here in Ontario.
