My hunting party liked the points based system because 2 members had been over 20yrs with no tag for WMU 36. Two other members were average 15yrs with no tag.
Having the points system is definitely a better system than random draw. On the first year we drew 2 bull tags and only claimed one, saving our points for the following year to claim the other tag.
I support the idea of trying to deter people from applying for second chance tags if they don’t know if they can commit to the hunt. I find lots of hunters don’t communicate with their party, and don’t find out until just before season that a party member even has a tag that they “may” claim. Frustrating that these tags go unused or without an attempt to fill them.
