This proposal is an assault on cyclists' comfort, safety, and mobility and is a complete waste of taxpayers' money to push the Premier's agenda to win votes from motorists. The Province has absolutely no authority to micromanage muncipalities' uses of their own roadways. It's also telling that there is no information at all about what criteria will be used from the Province to assess proposed bike lanes, but the Premier is still trying to push this legislation through. If this goes through it will make putting in bike lanes very difficult and time-consuming for municipalities and it will create a backlog of inefficiency and bureaucracy in a province where transportation projects already take far too long to be implemented. This proposal is putting cyclists' safety at risk and people will be seriously injured and killed if this passes. It also does not support environmental considerations despite claiming so since it doesn't support an emissions-free mode of transportation and instead encourages auto dependency which will further existing issues with emissions, congestion, and road safety. It also promotes an unhealthy lifestyle by refusing to give Ontarians options to use an active mode of transportation safely and comfortably.
