The proposal to shift approval authority from the municipal level to the provincial is a gross mismanagement of public money but also demonstrates this government's inability to utilize data to prioritize the health and wellness of the general public and the safety of vulnerable road users. By blocking and removing bike infrastructure that ensures people riding bikes are able to equitably access all areas of their city, cars and the dangers they carry are inappropriately prioritized. The future of mobility cannot be through cars and other single-occupant vehicles if we want to see the next generation thrive in a sustainable climate and a diverse city. Bike lane approvals should remain at the municipal level and there should be no bike infrastructure removed from city streets unless it is being improved and expanded.
