I am writing to express my strong opposition to Bill 212, the "Reducing Gridlock, Saving You Time Act." This bill's measures, particularly the proposed restrictions on bike lanes and the requirement for provincial approval for new lanes, would significantly hinder the growth of safe and sustainable transportation options across Ontario.

Bike lanes are vital infrastructure, just like sidewalks, providing essential transportation options for all road users, especially those most vulnerable. Removing or limiting bike lanes—especially on critical routes like Bloor, Yonge, and University—would turn back the clock on the progress we have made in building a connected, safe, and accessible city. Cycling infrastructure doesn’t just benefit cyclists; it also helps reduce traffic congestion, supports transit, and contributes to healthier, family-friendly neighborhoods.

It’s crucial to prioritize transportation safety and inclusivity. Adding layers of provincial oversight risks introducing unnecessary red tape that can prevent local governments from efficiently responding to their residents' needs for improved transportation choices.

I urge you to reconsider the provisions in Bill 212 that impact bike lanes and instead focus on supporting initiatives that enhance mobility, safety, and sustainability for all Ontarians.
