Bikes will be on the streets no matter what. Having designated bike lanes is safer, decreases congestion by removing slower moving traffic from the car lanes and encourages more people to use bikes and public transit instead of driving everywhere (if feasible), helping the environment. Ripping out bike lanes will not alleviate gridlock in Toronto; widening the bike infrastructure might.
