I am writing to comment on the proposal for an interim combined sewer to support development at 955 Lake Shore Blvd (Ontario Place). I strongly oppose this proposal, as it undermines decades of efforts by the City of Toronto to separate and replace combined sewers, a critical step in preventing the discharge of raw sewage into Lake Ontario. It also contravenes international agreements aimed at protecting water quality and habitats in the Great Lakes.

This proposal poses significant risks to human health, including water quality at beaches and the safety of fish and other aquatic life. Moreover, it threatens the lake’s role as a vital attraction for Canadians and international visitors. Using Canadian taxpayer dollars to benefit private sector interests, this plan disregards the public good and jeopardizes the stability of Lake Ontario’s ecosystem, especially during a time of severe biodiversity loss.
