I live less than 1 block from this site. I recognize our need for housing, especially affordable units. I'm a renter, unable to enter the housing market and paying 50% more rent than 2 yrs ago. I get it.
However, the city's proposal is extremely high-density with insufficient allowance for parking. We already have significant parking issues throughout this area.
There are also many mature trees on site that will be lost.
The noise from the rail yard is NOT insignificant. It shouldn't be completely overlooked.
I can't imagine the noise addition of adding thousands of people to that block.
Finally, Hamilton is NOT known for success in these types of projects. Soil remediation alone will blow away their budget and we'll be left paying for their poor planning and cost overruns for generations. Just look at the $5 million budget overspend for 80 tiny units in temp shelter ($5M over an original budget of just over $2M. The corruption and incompetence in planning is astounding. In private industry you'd be fired so fast for such blatant mis-management.
Please don't give the city carte-blanche to blow past important safeguards put in place for a reason.
