I see no reason to transfer the parklands in Wasaga Beach to the Ministry of Tourism or the town of Wasaga Beach in order to improve and integrate Nancy Island and the natural beach areas. Minimal infrastructure such as boardwalks would improve access to beach areas in the park This environment is rare world wide and is itselves both a tourist attraction and natural infrastructure and needs to be protected as such.
The mouth of the Nottawasaga river is a welcome relief to a boater from the canalised stretch along the cottages. Once someone put in a retaining wall , the neighbour has to follow suit as their shoreline will become eroded otherwise, an expensive and unattractive move.
The proposal to remove protected parklands is an attempt of the provincial government to divest itself of responsibility and downloading it to municipalities or profit seeking private investors. Just like Toronto's Lakeshore is essentially blocked and fragmented by development , Wasaga will be accessible to those who pay.
Wasaga Beach needs to build a denser downtown, instead of repeating the mistake of blocking the shore with developments and housing.
Nancy Island can be enhanced and made accessible under the direction of Parks.
