I am not a resident of Wasaga but have been a visitor to the area for many years. Each visit in the last few years seems to show more urbanization and less of the distinctness of the wonderful beach and park land that was the attraction to go there.
I fear that if the Province gives up any of the land to the Municipality, especially without knowing of a concrete plan of what will be done with it, some developer will win a bid and this particular park land and beach area will be destroyed in the name of densification. Once done, the beach cannot be reclaimed. Unlike the ocean beaches, it will not renew itself. The sand dunes will be lost.
Animal and bird nesting and habitat areas will be lost. I have followed with interest the plight of the Piping Plovers through various wildlife organizations and know how difficult it is to help them and to protect them. there are volunteers who do their best to look after the birds but there are also people who are more of a hindrance to them.
i submit a link below and add that I first heard of this on Newstalk 1010.
