If we are to survive as a province, water must be a public, not a private, resource.
We cannot afford to let this essential resource be sold to individuals who can use it as a bargaining chip or profit-making tool.
Unscrupulous companies could gain control of Ontario's fresh water resources and sell them to other governments. (Donald Trump is very interested in having Canadian water to solve US water shortages, for example.)
Thus, it is VERY IMPORTANT that permit-granting be very carefully monitored.
There must be oversight of the quantity of water we are allowing to be "bought" or licensed for withdrawal. Careful review of permit applications is needed to make sure our own water supply is sufficient.
As well, there must be very careful review of the bodies which are applying to take our water.
Are they trustworthy? Are they agents of foreign powers which seek to undermine Canada?
There must be review of their intended uses for the water they take, and investigation of their previous track records.

Factors like these must be carefully considered BEFORE we allow our water table to be drained by water takers. No automatic permits, please.
