I have massive concerns about the province of Ontario handing out/selling the province’s water resources. This is one resource we cannot squander!!! There need to be strict environmental conditions set and monitoring of water usage, patterns, processing methods and technologies overseen by transparent public agencies. The Ontario government has a duty to consult Indigenous peoples who may be impacted in matters of land and water rights. Climate change will wreak havoc to our water availability. We need to strengthen, not weaken, our groundwater protections now. Aquifers are finite resources. They take thousands of years to replenish.
Water is national water security issue. If permits are allowed with no scrutiny, they could fall under future trade agreements between US/Canada/Mexico restricting future control over our water resources. We need to ensure the health of our wetlands and our fresh water ecosystems. Water cannot become for sale in Ontario. Not now. Not ever!
