This proposal for "flexibility" is yet another example of the province sacrificing citizens' right to a safe and healthy environment for the benefit of a few profit-takers.
You clearly state the most important consideration is that proponents "keep their projects moving" at all costs.
You claim this is "while maintaining regulatory oversight" -- but that is just not true. The only regulatory oversight is after the fact. For up to a year, proponents can "keep their projects moving" with goodness knows what harm to the environment, what worsening of drought conditions.
And how do we know that even after a year, there will be ANY investigation to see if the proposed water taking project was safe and sound?
Given the government's current track record, I doubt there will be investigation, review or oversight.
At best, staff may respond to, and investigate, public complaints.
But what assurance do I have these investigations will be completed in a timely fashion?
I am happy to pay provincial taxes, and I would happily pay more taxes, if I had some assurance my water supply was going to be protected.
Meanwhile, please do not implement this proposal.
