Accepting this request to limit the development at the property next to Dufferin and Steeles is absurd.
This is a well positioned location with good transit and amenities. Sanofi is unreasonably requesting the limitation of developing housing here which is an important provincial and national need.
Applying the thoughtful risk taking principles Sanofi developed on this issue from both the company and government perspective should indicate that this rental development proceeds as planned with no MZO intervention to limit it.
From the Sanofi perspective, this development would actually be a benefit as it would provide a pool of local talent close to it's site to maintain it's 24/7 operations.
From the government's perspective this development would provide a longer contact, use more Ontario goods, and provide more Ontario jobs for the additional residents that would be at this location.
Approving this MZO is a lose-lose decision, because Sanofi would miss an opportunity to impact an area of national significance, and Ontario would look to be weak on building homes and jobs.
