I am concerned that this proposed change will restrict some of the great work local conservation areas do, especially in the area of outdoor education programming.
The conservation area in my hometown, conservation Halton, provides a hands on maple syrup festival every spring, popular Christmas programming in the winter, and year round field trip programming for local schools.
Not only are these revenue generating they also are important community activities that allow people, living in increasingly dense urban environments, access to nearby natural spaces.
I would hate to see any of these programs axed because they aren’t in line with the core mandante of flood prevention.
This whole move seems like it will be a huge hassle, and an expensive restructuring. Local conservation areas know the needs of their local area and community best and are already doing great work. They don’t need more provincial government interference.
