I am strongly opposed to Bill 60. I live on Bathurst street and recently there was a proposal to add bus-only priority lanes north of Bloor up to Wilson. This would have effectively resulted in a reduction of motor lanes for cars.
The team responsible, RapidTO, setup public consultations for comments. They also took comments online. The results showed that many people were very upset at losing car lanes and were against reducing the lanes.
What happened? They decided not to go ahead and the car lanes were not affected.
This happened without Bill 60. Car lanes were protected where people wanted them. Bill 60 is completely irrelevant and unneeded. It only exists to grant more power to certain decision makers.
The existing system works. We don't need to preserve all car lanes across the entire city, only the ones which would cause unreasonable impact. If you really want to ensure all important car lanes are kept, make a law to require any lane reduction projects (eg, bike lanes, bus lanes) to have extensive windows for submitting comments.
