Smaller local conservation authorities are necessary to ensure adequate knowledge of floodplains and watersheds remains easily accessible and relevant instead of the need to reach out to an office that may not be close in location or aware of local issues. They support the local community through educational programs and survey new development projects. Less staff and larger surface area for conservation will not be efficient or support communities, particularly rural areas which they serve.
