I do not support the proposed boundaries for regional conservation consolidation. In this proposed plan I see the scaling back of environmental regulations, a theme of the Ford government.
This consolidation is a particular issue as it removes caretakers from the land. For example, the proposed Huron-Superior conservation authority is over 23,000 square kilometres. Difficulty for employees and other service provisions within this proposed authority, and others, will only increase due to the sheer scale of the new zones.
Additionally, the more we centralize caretaking of the land, we move away from a distinctions based approach. One that will actually benefit the land and all those living in it. I am so against the regional consolidation of conservation authorities. Ontario has 36 for a reason, if this is really about eliminating bureaucracy challenges, this proposal does not show it. This proposal will only be detrimental to the beautiful lands we call Ontario.
