I feel that this government has been systematically dismantling environmental protections, including changes that have already occurred to the jurisdiction of Conservation Authorities. I strongly disagree with this direction.
This new change is very short on details, and it is not immediately obvious that this will result in further weakening of Conservation Authorities, but based on many other past changes, it seems likely this will be the end result. The intentions of this government to "reduce red tape," have only loosening environmental standards that we all desperately need to mitigate climate change, and maintain our biodiversity. The well-being of every person in this province relies on healthy ecosystems, and removing these protections endangered us all. I beg this government to only strengthen Conservation Authorities and restore their jurisdiction over natural heritage matters, rather than restricting them to flooding and hazard issues.
