My concerns regarding this merger is as follows:
Local Knowledge & Expertise- Conservation authorities are deeply rooted in their communities. Their staff and volunteers bring valuable knowledge of local ecosystems, species, and land use patterns. A merger may result in expertise being lost or diluted.
Community Representation- Local boards provide residents with a voice in decision‑making. Consolidation could risk reducing representation.
Efficiency vs. Effectiveness-While mergers may promise cost savings and streamlined operations, efficiency should not come at the expense of environmental protection.
Partnerships & Relationships -Conservation authorities collaborate with municipalities, landowners, and community groups. These relationships are built on trust and local presence. Restructuring could destroy these important relationships
Environmental Stewardship The ultimate goal of conservation authorities is to protect natural resources for current and future generations. Mergers should be evaluated against this mission, ensuring that environmental outcomes remain the priority.
