I am simultaneously depressed and outraged by this proposal. For a government led by a man known for shady land dealings and corruption, this centralization of CA's is an absolute erosion of citizen representation and our ability to advocate at the local level for our soil and water. Already, we are living in a province- arguably an entire country- where corporate interests hold the ear of governance closer than they should. We should be encouraging greater citizen engagement through a broadening of local institutions that represent citizen environmental interests at their fore. I see no benefit to this consolidation other than economic savings at the cost of the environment and a dampening down of the peoples' voice.
