Proposed Ford Legislation Submission
After reviewing the proposed amendments to the Conservation Authorities Act, I believe this legislation would be a serious mistake and should not be passed. Once again, it appears that the Doug Ford government is attempting to weaken Conservation Authority rules and regulations for political gain, particularly in alignment with the interests of the Ontario Builders' Association.
These changes would make it far easier to build housing and commercial developments on protected green spaces. This government's actions suggest a troubling lack of commitment to environmental protection, while prioritizing developer interests that threaten wetlands, natural resources, and fragile ecosystems.
Conservation Authorities serve as essential
environmental watchdogs. They play a critical role in safeguarding our land, water, and wildlife by holding developers accountable and preventing further environmental degradation.
Undermining their authority places our communities and natural heritage at serious risk.
I strongly oppose this proposed legislation and fully support the Hamilton Conservation Authority's submission to the Environmental Registry of Ontario. Conservation decisions must remain rooted in local knowledge and community interests, not political or commercial pressure.
