Hello. Regarding the Midtown development in Oakville, I’d like to begin with the acknowledgment that the vast majority of residents in Oakville understand that we need to increase density. It is the Ontario vision of the Midtown that we disagree with.
The area surrounding the Oakville GO is currently already congested during train releases and peak traffic times. Trafalgar Road is the primary route between North and South Oakville (where downtown Oakville is located). Obviously adding close to 7000 residential units in a less than 5 hectare of land is very high density and in Oakville in particular, it is unprecedented and highly incongruous with the rest of the municipality or surrounding towns. This not only does not take into account the current traffic situation, infrastructure and how it will affect the cohesiveness and culture of Oakville.
The Town of Oakville has been in consultation with its citizens and they have developed an alternative plan. In itself, it has, at a minimum, tried to integrated some of the views, suggestions and opinions of its citizens. As such, it is a much more democratic and conciliatory approach.
I challenge you to give the plan Town of Oakville has developed serious consideration and not use a cookie cutter approach that fails to take into account the uniqueness of Oakville which its citizens cherish.
Thank you for your time.
