I am writing to express how objectively the Provinces TOC plan for Midtown Oakville makes zero sense to anyone who lives in Oakville. The traffic congestion in and around the area of the proposed development is already insane at certain times of day, and flat out unsafe when vehicles are forced to stay on the highway when trying to exit at Trafalgar Rd at rush hour. Trying to drive through any of the near by streets around rush hour can sometimes take 10-15 minutes to travel extremely short distances, rivaling Torontos traffic insanity. The wait times at critical infrastructure like the Emergency center at the Oakville hospital are crazy, usually at or more than 8 hours. My family member have waited in it and I avoid it at all costs, even if I require medical attention. I have lived in Oakville in various locations all my life and currently live with wife and kids near the proposed development. This is a plan that is so flat out wrong that myself and my family are considering moving if it goes through in anything close to its current form. Ontario has long needed much more infrastructure, roads, hospitals, etc, not more high rise condo buildings. The conservatives generally have great policies however this is clearly excessive overdevelopment that is not in the interest of the community nor is it something consumers are interested in. The real estate market has cooled heavily and continues to do so, especially in the condo market, Toronto is in a borderline crisis with the extreme levels of inventory they have for condos. Ontario has never needed huge numbers of homes being built or extreme housing density, we have just needed less than the record levels of immigration that we have had for almost the last ten years, which clearly falls in line with the start of the massive housing cost increases. I have yet to speak with anyone in Oakville that is in support of this plan and usually reactions are shock, disbelief or resigned anger at politicians. This is clearly not what is best for Oakville, and I have yet to meet a resident in support of it. I invite anyone in favour of the provinces proposal to personally drive through the area around rush hour and then urge them to stop this plan and reconsider doing something beneficial for the community.
