The proposed amalgamation still leaves Renfrew County outside any Conservation Authority.
Renfrew County—as large as or larger than Algonquin Provincial Park—has never had Conservation Authority oversight. That exclusion was based on outdated assumptions about low risk and limited development, despite the county being predominantly farmland and bordering a major watershed. As farmers age out and as we currently see development accelerating those assumptions no longer hold.
In a climate-changed reality, leaving entire regions without watershed-based governance is not a planning choice—it is a public-safety failure. Continuing to leave whole counties unprotected—is not reform.
