Comment on ERO #025-1257:

Canterbury Hills Camp is a summer camp in Dundas, Ontario, and our location is one of our fundamental strengths. Although we are situated in close proximity to large urban areas, our property has the feel of a remote wilderness setting because we are fortunate to be surrounded by land owned and managed by the Hamilton Conservation Authority (HCA). Our camp staff have developed a mutually beneficial working relationship with the dedicated, skilled and knowledgable HCA staff.

I am opposed to the proposal to merge local conservation authorities into large organizations. Our camp values our connections with the HCA staff who have expertise regarding the local environment. Our capacity to provide a nature-based camping experience could be jeopardized by a centralized decision making process. I am in full agreement with HCA's submission to the ERO. Local decision-making is essential to ensure the local priorities are recognized. It is very concerning that mergers are being proposed without giving any rationale for why they are necessary and without giving key details such as who will pay for the associated costs.

Canterbury Hills Camp and HCA share a focus on promoting quality of life for future generations. Hopefully the actions of the provincial government will support this as well.
