I am concerned about the consolidation of conservation authorities into larger regional ones. A key role of the CAs’ is to safeguard water resources, along with other natural resources. For water, I feel this is better done on a watershed basis and it does not strike me that the proposed regional boundaries follows that concept.

Rather the proposal seems to be focussed on streamlining the approvals and increasing the speed for processing development proposals, which is not what I believe should be the focus of our bureaucracy. The primary focus of environmental protection should be exactly that – the protection of the environment, not the expedient development of land.

I am therefore opposed to the proposal.
