I do not support the amalgamation of the Conservation Authorities. I do not believe that this government has adequately consulted with the Conservation Authorities and has limited awareness of the costs involved. Like with the Amalgamation of School Boards, there are costs that the government is not accounting for with this amalgamation and like the School Boards, I believe that creating these large Conservation Authorities will actually increase the number of Administrative positions required.
Conservation Authorities ensure that the negative ramifications of construction is done in our province with limited impact on wildlife. I don’t believe that increasing the size of these Authorities will improve their ability to perform their role and in the near future the work of amalgamation will take away from their ability to provide this vital role.
No amalgamation of agencies in the Province of Ontario should occur without intense consultation with those that actually work in that agency and I would advocate that consultation should include employees at every level.
