The proposed changes are unnecessary and will lead to burdening the tax payer with costs associated with creating new conservation authorities while also reducing protections at a local level. Smaller CAs allow for targeted responses to local issues such as flood mitigation while running programs aimed at their specific areas. This local expertise will be lost with larger areas and will not save money in the long run, but rather cost money both due to attempting to create new programs to replace what has been lost and for not providing targeted solutions to flooding, soil erosion etc. As an agricultural landowner, I believe the local CAs as currently structured are essential to effective farmland health and crop production in Ontario. I would strongly urge you to drop this unwise legislation and replace it with an increase in funding for local CAs.
