I live within the Lower Trent Conservation Authority area. I have read the proposal to consolidate the areas into 7 large regional areas . I oppose this for many reasons.
The government plan will reduce decision making by local communities who know their particular area best . Conservation depends on local watershed knowledge and on relationships with local residents.
A large structure will mean disconnection of conservation services from local municipalities.
I use the conservation areas within my municipality, and have a friendly relationship with the staff who lead groups and teach valuable environmental lessons in my municipality.
I don't want that to disappear in the large regional authority you propose. And I am not convinced that this change is needed.
