I am strongly opposed to this proposal. It risks and undermines the current service and citizen protection. Local knowledge and expertise will be attenuated. The Provincial Government will be sidestepping an important service of flood protection to citizens. Ford's OWN GOVERNMENT has acknowledged the importance of watershed management in understanding and mitigating flooding and property damage (Protecting People and Property: Ontario’s Flooding Strategy 2020, Hon. John Yakabuski, Minister of Natural Resources and Forestry).
Development cannot supersede natural hazard awareness and mitigation.
This amalgamation of conservation authorities cannot go ahead.
