As a fluvial geomorphologist working in Ontario, my work is constantly within the jurisdiction of a Conservation Authority, and to say amalgamation will improve consistency simply shows a lack of familiarity with the CAs ORegs as more often than not, they're identical aside from names changes.
By reducing the number of CAs, all you're doing is taking experts and resources away from where they're necessary. A regulator based out of NVCA (Barrie/Utopia) is going to have next to no experience working with shoreline hazards you'd see necessary for Goderich (MVCA), yet somehow they're grouped together. Even within TRCA, which won't be impacted by this plan, struggles with consistency within the same CA, let alone a new area hundreds of kilometers a day.
These CAs goal is to help protect us, our property, and the environment which is increasingly at threat in this province. To try to damage the system in place under a fake guise of "efficiency" is nothing more than an insult to the people who live in the province who value more than the dime that can be made by selling out the very place you live.
Do the right thing, reject this proposal.
