It has not been adequately demonstrated that the proposed changes to Ontario’s conservation authorities are supported by science. If there is concrete evidence of this, please provide it to the public.
The proposed management areas are far too large and these changes will undoubtedly result in loss of local knowledge and local management capacity. Ultimately leading to weakened environmental protections across the province.
This is a pointless consolidation and an obvious attempt to make development easier for Doug Ford’s developer “friends” by making it impossible for conservation authorities to provide meaningful conservation and planning services at a local scale.
Ontario’s system of watershed-based conservation authorities is innovative and touted as a model worldwide. Why is this administration try so hard to dismantle something that works for the environment?
