Local groups will have less control and say, in how things are managed.
This will also lead to what they say is a fast track to permits and development, which will destroy natural areas.
We don't need fast tracking, we need care in natural hazard management: flood and erosion control, drought/low water program, advice to municipalities on natural hazard management and other matters, regulating impacts of development and activities in hazardous land (such as floodplains, shorelines or wetlands, natural hazards and public safety through a permitting process, management of conservation authority owned land, drinking water source protection, surface water and groundwater monitoring programs.
Please reconsider this proposal. Don't take away something that is working.
