Conservation authorities serve as local voices on sustainable community development. Bill 68 consolidates conservation areas and gives the province oversight on these areas. This is not in the best interest of the people of Ontario. Local voices, including indigenous views, will be lost and consequences endanger communities.
Wetlands improve our drinking water quality, protect us from flooding, and supports biodiversity. Developing housing over wetlands is short sighted and dangerous. Why would you want to build housing that puts residents at risk of environmental harm? Conservation authority knowledge is essential to sustainable development and should not be viewed as red tape.
Land use should not be based on Developer wants. It should be based on science of responsible development practices that conservation authorities provide. I urge you not to proceed with this consolidation.
