I’m concerned that combining multiple CAs into a single Lake Erie–wide authority would weaken the local voice and the on-the-ground knowledge that’s essential to managing a watershed like the Thames.
At a time when ecosystems are under more pressure than ever due to climate change, land-use changes, and extreme weather, we need people who know these rivers, wetlands, and communities firsthand. Local staff and boards are better positioned to notice changes as they happen, monitor impacts over time, and advocate effectively for the health of the watershed.
Diluting that local presence risks losing both accountability and connection. I hope the province takes these concerns seriously and recognizes that strong, locally rooted conservation authorities are part of how communities adapt and respond to growing environmental challenges.
