Good evening,
I would like to add my voice to the proposal to consolidate the Conservation Authorities.
I concur with other voices raised that the best way forward is to pause the Consolidation and instead focus on instituting a central agency to provide oversite to the Conservation Authorities, which would serve to address the noted issues in inconsistencies and fragmentation in programming and policies.
This would be a strong first step in achieving your goals effectively and efficiently. More is lost through the consolidation of the CA’s - knowledge and insight than would be gained, certainly in the medium term. But, an agency to provide oversite would quickly strengthen and improve what you already have on the ground. Decisions regarding future consolidation, if still required, would flow from the Central Agency.
Thank you for opening the discussion for public response.
