I have lived in Oakville my entire life and have already witnessed how dramatically the town has grown in recent years. This proposed development raises serious concerns about density, infrastructure, and land use planning.
The area identified for this project is primarily a business and employment area, not a residential neighbourhood. Introducing eleven condominium towers ranging from 46 to 59 storeys, in an area roughly the size of the Rogers Centre, represents an extreme and inappropriate shift in land use.
There are multiple schools located nearby, many of which already face capacity pressures, as well as roads and transit systems that regularly experience congestion. Oakville is already a densely populated community, and adding thousands of new residents to this area without substantial and proven upgrades to schools, healthcare, transit, and public services is not sustainable.
While growth is inevitable, it must be carefully planned and context-sensitive. High-density residential development of this scale in a business area risks eliminating employment space, increasing commute strain, and reducing overall community functionality. Using a Minister’s Zoning Order to bypass municipal planning and community input further undermines public confidence in this proposal.
I strongly urge the Ministry to reconsider both the scale and location of this development and to engage meaningfully with the Town of Oakville and local residents to pursue growth that is balanced, realistic, and livable.
