The development plans for Mid-Town Core of Oakville are generationally important for Halton and Ontario as they essentially build a new city in a land-locked gateway to Oakville. The Town’s Official Plan Amendment for Midtown (OPA 70) recognizes the importance of the decisions being made and ensured the widest possible input was achieved by building the OPA transparently, with public input and Council approval. In addition, the Oakville Midtown OPA 70 is in full compliance with provincial policies and proven track record of growth and housing development.
In contrast, the TOC (the subject of the MZO ) was advanced behind closed doors under confidentiality agreements, striving a predetermined developer-driven plan with superficial consultation. This misuse of provincial power represent a profound override of local democracy and resembles the governance failures exposed in the Greenbelt scandal, where planning regulations were overridden to benefit private interests. The Province should not repeat that mistake by going forward with a bad product produced by a seriously flawed process.
I vote NO for these MZOs."
