Dear Transit Oriented Communities and Agency Oversight Division,
I am writing as an Oakville resident to express my strong opposition to the proposed Minister’s Zoning Orders (MZOs) for the Transit‑Oriented Community lands identified in ERO notice 025‑1368. While I support thoughtful, transit‑aligned growth, these MZOs would override essential local planning controls and permit an unprecedented scale of development without the safeguards our community relies on.
As someone who commutes by GO Train to Toronto multiple times each week, I see firsthand the strain our existing transportation network is already under. Anyone travelling from Union Station to Oakville during the evening peak, particularly between 5:00 and 6:30 p.m., knows the reality: gridlock at the Oakville GO Station is routine, and attempting to exit towards Trafalgar Road can feel chaotic and unsafe. The congestion is so severe that I often choose to drive to the farther Clarkson GO Station because, despite the additional distance, it provides a significantly faster and more predictable trip home.
I strongly encourage decision‑makers to experience this commute themselves; a single evening ride would make the scale of the current bottleneck abundantly clear. Adding massive density without a transparent plan for mobility, road improvements, and transit flow will not resolve these issues - it will amplify them.
I am deeply concerned that this approach undermines local planning processes, removes meaningful public oversight, and risks creating development that is out of scale with the surrounding community.
I hope you take these thoughts and opinions into strong consideration.
Thank you.
