Why does the Provincial government think using 20th century tools will solve at 21st century housing shortage?
There is currently a condo glut in Ontario, especially the GTA, of unsaleable, unrentable, not-fit-for-purpose housing units, despite a severe shortage of housing. Building more of the same is irrational, illogical, and financially irresponsible.
Instead, back in 2023, there was a very innovative, ecologically sound, solution put to Oakville Town Council at a Planning and Development meeting. It meets all Provincially mandated housing goals for the TOC. It could be built rapidly by numerous developers, not just relying on one megacorporation, with all the inherent risks of both economic and execution failure.
Using this solution as a blueprint for the development of the Oakville TOC would not only put Ontario at the very cutting edge of housing development, it would make Oakville the jewel in the crown for all of Canada. It would win global awards for building a beautiful, sustainable, diverse community. It also requires far less investment in costly infrastructure and could be completed in less than half the time.
For more information, please contact the Ward 3 Councillors and Mayor of Oakville. You won’t be disappointed.
